Dr. Kirsten Frederickson, Veterinarian/Owner

 

After graduating from the U of MN in 2006 she became an associate at Sunrise Equine. She purchased the practice in 2012. She takes a special interest in chiropractic, lameness and dentistry. In her spare time she enjoys riding her horse Dolly, going to the gym, spending time at the cabin with her husband Jeremy, and getting together with family.

Dr. Jill Deets, Veterinarian

 

Dr. Jill graduated from the University of Minnesota – College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 where she pursued an equine medicine track. She then completed a yearlong internship at the Stillwater Equine Clinic in Stillwater, MN. After her internship, she joined an equine practice as an associate practitioner in northern New Jersey for 1.5 years before returning to her home state of Minnesota to join the team at Sunrise Equine in February 2019. Throughout her experiences, Dr. Jill has developed special interests in internal medicine and ophthalmology. She attended the Chi University for acupuncture in 2021 and is now certified in that as well. In her spare time, Dr. Jill enjoys spending time with family and friends, cuddling her cat, learning about history, reading, running, and traveling when she can.

Dr. Kate O’Conor, Veterinarian

 

Dr. Kate joined the Sunrise Equine team in October of 2020. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2010 and completed an internship and residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota as well. She went on to also complete a master’s degree focused on llamas and alpacas. She has developed special interests with infectious diseases, gastrointestinal problems, such as chronic diarrhea, ophthalmology, and metabolic disorders.
Dr. Kate grew up riding in a variety of English disciplines, and is again looking forward to getting back into it now that she has moved out of the city. She lives in Hinckley with her son and their 6 sheep, 3 yaks and babies on the way. Together they enjoy hiking, riding bike, and are currently working on training their sheep named Turkey to carry a pack!

Dr. Delaney Cox, Veterinarian

 

Dr. Delaney joined the Sunrise Equine team in June of 2022 after graduating from the University of Minnesota- College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2022 – pursuing an equine-medicine focused track. Throughout her time in veterinary school, she worked as a student technician at Piper Equine Clinic and was involved on the student board of AAEP. In all her equine experiences, she has developed an interest for performance and lameness issues. Dr. Delaney grew up surrounded by horses and competing her warmbloods in the dressage circuit within the Midwest. Currently, Dr. Delaney has 3 warmbloods and a mule who live on her parents’ hobby farm in Isanti. In her spare time, Dr. Delaney enjoys spending time with family and friends, riding her horses, running, and hiking with her fiance. She is excited to be at Sunrise Equine to help serve this equine community.

Katie Luoma, Veterinarian

 

Dr. Katie joined Sunrise Equine in March of 2023. She graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2022 and worked for an equine practice just outside of the twin cities prior to joining the Sunrise team.
 
Dr. Katie enjoys all aspects of equine practice, but holds a special interest in equine sports medicine, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. She completed her acupuncture training through CuraCore Vet in Fort Collins, CO in September of 2022 and completed her chiropractic training through Options for Animals in Wellsville, KS in February of 2023 and is certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA).
 
In her free time, Dr. Katie enjoys fishing and hiking with her husband Jace, playing with their dog Trigger, and riding her horse Brandy.

Jeremy Frederickson, Practice Manager, Technician

 

Jeremy Frederickson joined the Sunrise team in early 2013. He has taken on the many rolls including practice manager, laboratory technician, veterinary assistant, and grounds keeper. In his free time Jeremy enjoys fishing, hunting, and spending time with his wife Kirsten. In this picture, Jeremy is giving one of our larger patients “a shoulder to lean on”.

Desirae, Office Manager

 

Desirae started with Sunrise Equine in July 2014 as a full time receptionist. She graduated in 2007 with an Associates of Applied Science degree. Both her love for animals and opportunity landed her here at Sunrise Equine. Her favorite things to do are snowmobiling, camping, four wheeling, fishing – all seasons, and traveling.

Mackenzie, Receptionist/Veterinary Assistant

 

Mackenzie started with Sunrise Equine in June 2016 as a part time receptionist. She is currently enrolled in online college for her veterinary technician degree. She has always had a passion for animals, especially horses, so when the opportunity came up it was a no-brainer! In her free time she enjoys hunting, being outdoors, and hanging out with friends. She enjoys trail riding with her 2 geldings.

Robyn, Receptionist

 

Robyn has been with Sunrise Equine since February 2008 as a part-time receptionist. She has an AAS degree and works full-time as a lab tech at a hospital, but she loves horses and her work here at Sunrise Equine so she mainly works Saturdays and fills in when she’s able. She enjoys spending time with her young son and extended family, and being outside.

Elizabeth, Veterinary Assistant

 

Elizabeth started working with Sunrise Equine as an assistant in March 2016 but has been cleaning the barn and stalls at the clinic since 2012. She has been around horses all of her life and has several of her own. She attended the MN horse training academy and does a little training on the side.

Angie, Veterinary Assistant

 

Angie started working for Sunrise Equine as a veterinary assistant in March 2018. In her spare time she enjoys reading, crafting, riding the family horses, dog training with her Chihuahua mix Penny and pampering her cats. She is very active in her church community and enjoys baking goodies for the team.

Jamie, Veterinary Assistant

 

Jamie started with Sunrise Equine in December 2020. She started out by cleaning the clinic then became an assistant. She enjoys riding horse, fishing, hunting with her 2 German Short Hairs, spending time with family at the cabin, and playing softball. She plans to go to farrier school in August 2023 to further educate herself. She would like to eventually specialize in pony and donkey hoof care.

Anna, Veterinary Assistant

 

Anna started with Sunrise Equine as a veterinary assistant in September of 2022. In her free time she loves to show her paint horse “Imagine Dragons” at APHA breed shows. Along with being actively involved with APHA, she also enjoys showing at local WSCA shows and is a 4H volunteer for the horse project. She is aspiring to become an equine vet herself and is currently getting her undergrad to achieve her dreams.

Ariel, Veterinary Assistant

 

She’s back!! After spending some time at a small animal clinic she decided she missed working with horses! She is now a mother of a 2 year old daughter and has another one on the way currently. In her spare time she enjoys riding her horse Cowgirl, curling (winter sport), hunting, fishing and camping. On top of being a mom and working full time she also owns a small business making pet gear called Trails and Tails Pet Gear.
